The short version
We collect what we need to answer your question and to keep the app working. We do not sell your data. We do not run ads.
What we collect
- Photos and video you send. This is the main thing. We need the picture to
understand your problem.
- What you type or say. Voice is turned into text on your device or by our
provider, and we keep the text.
- A device identifier so your saved guides are still there next time, even
if you never make an account.
- Your email and name if you sign in with Apple or Google. Nothing else
comes from them.
- Usage events — screens opened, answers produced, whether an answer worked.
We use these to make the app better.
- Purchase status from the app store, so we know whether you are subscribed.
We do not collect your contacts, your location, your browsing, or anything from other apps. Photos are stripped of their embedded metadata — including GPS coordinates — before they are stored, so a photo of your kitchen does not carry your home address.
Which AI companies process your data
To produce an answer, your photo and your question are sent to AI companies who run the models we use. They process the data to generate your answer and do not use it to train their models under our agreements.

Where your data is stored
Photos are stored with Cloudflare R2. Everything else is in a Postgres database hosted by Neon. Both are encrypted in transit and at rest.
How long we keep it
We keep your guides and their photos until you delete them or delete your account. Usage events are kept in aggregate.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or delete everything. Deleting your account removes your guides and photos for good. Use the app's settings, or email us.
If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Knack is not intended for children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app.
